Hwang’s Martial Arts World Taekwondo Championship Promotes Confidence and International Friendship

Competitors from across the world will compete and demonstrate their skills during the 31st Annual Hwang’s Martial Arts World Taekwondo Championship in Broadbent Arena at the Kentucky Exposition Center Saturday, Oct. 21. The event is hosted by Grandmaster Jung Oh Hwang, a silver medalist in judo at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

The event focuses on promoting confidence and building international friendship, with competitors and guests representing Panama, Peru, Cuba, South Korea, Bermuda, Alaska, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Idaho, Tennessee, Washington DC, Georgia, New York and Iowa. Divisions include children as young as three years of age and adults 35 years and older.

The championship kicks off at 9 a.m. with the black belt competition. Opening ceremonies begin at 12:45 p.m. and showcase Hwang’s students performing martial art demonstrations. The color belt competition begins at 2 p.m. and the event continues until 5 p.m., with competitions in breaking, poomsae and sparring.

Hwang’s Martials Arts provides instruction to students at three Louisville locations, and has received awards for education, leadership and work with area charities.

Admission at the door is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
